Customer Facility Charge (CFC)
Also called CFC, airport facility charge, transportation facility charge
What it means
A Customer Facility Charge is a fee set by an airport, not the rental company, and added to rentals that start at that airport. The rental company collects it and passes it to the airport, which uses it to pay for things like consolidated rental car centers and shuttle buses. It's usually a fixed amount per day or per rental, and some airports cap the number of days it applies.
Why it matters
It's one reason airport rentals can cost more than city ones. Because it's mandatory, it should appear in a price that's shown as complete.
Wording by region
Mostly a US term; other countries use "airport surcharge" or "premium location fee."
