Concession recovery fee
Also called concession recoupment fee, airport concession fee, airport concession recovery fee
What it means
Airports charge rental companies a concession fee, usually a share of their revenue, for operating at the airport. A concession recovery fee is the rental company passing all or part of that cost on to the renter, usually as a percentage of the rental charges. It's different from a Customer Facility Charge, which is set by the airport itself.
Why it matters
It's often one of the larger lines on a US airport receipt. Off-airport locations usually don't charge the same fee, though ones that collect customers from the airport by shuttle often pay the airport too and pass on their own access or concession fee.
Wording by region
Mostly US and Canada. Elsewhere the same cost is usually built into an "airport surcharge" or "premium location surcharge."
