The short answerKeeping the car longer than booked, agreed with the rental company before the original return time.
What it means
A rental extension changes the return date or time on an active rental. It's arranged with the rental company (or sometimes the booking site) before the car is due back, and priced at the rate that applies at that moment, not necessarily the original one.
Why it matters
An agreed extension keeps your cover in place. Simply keeping the car without telling anyone can be treated as an unauthorized rental.
