Grace period
Also called return grace period
The short answerA short window after the agreed return time before late charges start.
What it means
A grace period is the extra time a rental company allows after the scheduled return before it charges for the delay. Its length varies by company, often 30 minutes or less, sometimes up to an hour. After it ends, the company may charge extra hours or a full extra day.
Why it matters
Rental days usually run in 24-hour blocks from pickup time. Returning a little late can cost a full day, so know the grace period before you plan your return.
