Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
Also called PAI, personal accident cover
The short answerOptional cover that pays medical and accident benefits for the driver and passengers after a crash in the rental car.
What it means
Personal Accident Insurance pays set benefits, such as medical expenses and accidental death benefits, to the renter and passengers if they're injured in an accident in the rental car. It's separate from damage waivers and liability cover, and it isn't health or life insurance.
Why it matters
Many travelers already have similar protection through health or travel insurance, so PAI is one of the extras worth checking against what you already carry. It's often sold together with personal effects cover.
