Debit card restriction
Also called debit card policy, debit card rules
The short answerLimits many rental companies place on using a debit card, especially for the security deposit.
What it means
Many rental companies restrict debit cards. Some don't accept them for the deposit at all; others accept them only with extra checks, such as proof of return travel, a credit check or a larger deposit, or only for certain car classes. Prepaid cards are rarely accepted for the deposit.
Why it matters
It's one of the most common reasons travelers can't collect a car they've already paid for. Check the rental company's card rules before you travel, not at the counter.
